Don’t let your animals breed…..Adopt and rescue your next pet…..WHY?

because….

...5 out of 10 dogs in shelters and 7 out of 10 cats in shelters are destroyed simply because there is no one to adopt them?

Think about it. Don’t buy from a breeder…go to the shelter or a local rescue in your area. or look up Petfinder.com, they can help you find a pet. Please!

Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). Shelter intakes are about evenly divided between those animals relinquished by owners and those picked up by animal control.

Less than 2 percent of cats and only 15 to 20 percent of dogs are returned to their owners.  Most of these were identified with tags, tattoos or microchips.

Twenty-five percent of dogs who enter local shelters are purebred. (Source: NCPPSP)Only 10 percent of the animals received by shelters have been spayed or neutered. About 75 percent of owned pets are neutered.

At least 20 percent of cats are acquired as strays. (Source: NCPPSP) Many strays are lost pets who were not kept properly indoors or provided with identification.

The average cost of basic food, supplies, medical care and training for a dog or cat is $700 to $875 annually.

About 75 percent of owned pets are neutered or spayed. I am happy to say that is increasing with education!
